Burning Feeling
I’ve shaved 2 times and I don’t mind about cutting my self here and their but. After shaving I use AOS After shave and My face still feels like it’s burning for hours after words. Is it normal to feel that way? I strop 50 times with Premium Bridle their best one. I use Dovo Imitation Tortoise Shell 5/8"
What I’m trying ask is do different metals give a different feel on the face? And is it normal to feel burning sensation for hours?Last edited by fish4life; 07-12-2010 at 12:38 AM.

Is it normal for your face to be burning for hours after a shave....I think the answer to that is clearly no. Is it normal for your face to be burning for hours after only your second shave with a straight razor.....I think the answer to that is "maybe."
I think two shaves is way to early to judge anything. The whole thing is new. Your technique is not perfected. Your stropping is not perfected. Maybe your prep is not as good as it could be.
What I am saying is that mastering this art takes a very long time as I am learning myself. I am only three months into this new adventure and I learn something new every shave.
I truly think it is too early to assess your situation, but make sure your beard prep is good and use very light pressure when stropping and shaving. The learning curve is steep, but not insurmountable. I think the burning will diminish with each successive shave.

Yes, the burning will get better. I can't remember how long it took for me to stop feeling the irritation long after I was done, but it was certainly a lot longer than two shaves. I would suggest you try to limit your shave to minimal passes. It may be temping to go over an area repeatedly, trying to acheive as smooth a shave as possible but it makes the area raw and does nothing for your technique. Practice doesn't make perfect, it makes permanent. If you're doing it wrong, it just becomes harder to break bad habits. I've used Nivea shave balm as well as other balms to sooth the burn. Others speak highly of alum block though I haven't tried it myself. Keep at it. It will get better. Good luck.

Cool thanks that sounds right. The first shave Burned more and the 2ed did not last as long. So I believe I just have to get used to it. As far as the prep I don’t use a thick lather . First I shower , then oil my face turn on the Tea pot use the boiling water in a ceramic mug, it feels warm by the time it hits my face. I think if I get a thick lather it may change things for me.

Boiling water? I have experienced more irritation with exceptionally hot water. If your burn your face with water first, the razor burn will be that much worse.

At first, my lathering technique was just as bad as my shave technique. I was using thin, watery lather or thin, dry lather. I then perfected my lathering and now I like to paint it on my face and neck as thick as possible to allow enough lather for three passes. I would say to practice building your lather and next time try putting it on nice and thick and creamy.

If the razor is "optimally" honed & your technique is up to scratch there should be no excessive burning or irritation. These 2 factors can be a big ask at first.
Allergy to your soap may also be a possibilityThe white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

I leave the Camellia Oil on the blad when stroping and then shave has any one done that? I also don't take off the oil from AOS off my face. But I only shaved 2 times so I'm new.
