Thanked: 1Great Shave...burning sensation?
i have been wet-shaving for a month. As of two weeks ago i am getting great shaves and the damage i did to my face in the first two weeks is going away(cuts, razor bumps and general irritation). I started out using Tabac soap. I really like this soap. I then started super-lathering using unscented AOS cream. I can get a BBS if i am okay with a little irritation. I get get a DFS with no irritation. I tried the TOBs Sandalwood for the first time last night. BTW i shave at night now b/c my face is still smooth enough for Army standards in the morning. I usually put some lather on my face and let it sit with a hot towel for two to three mins as my pre shave prep. However when i did this with TOBs sandalwood my face started to burn. I waited it out and continued with my shave. The burning did not go away until i applied my aftershave balm. I had a great shave with no visible irritation. However the burning sensation was odd. It was the same sensation you get from applying an alcohol based aftershave to a severly irritated just shaved face.

I try to use all unscented pre-shaves and creams. I guess since one is trying to get their pores open, you are more susceptible to irritation from natuaral ingredients and chemicals.
I have been using the AOS unscented shave cream for several years. I just tried the lavender scented and it burned a bit like you describe. I'll see if I can get used to it and if not, back to unscented.“Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe.”

Thanked: 1Pores are always open Mvcrash, don't know where the myth of pores opening and closing came from..but they have no muscular wall so it's impossible for them to contract and expand. Im not using a straight razor but with my DE my face always stings for a few moments when i wash my face with african black soap after shaving. But like you there is no visible signs of irritation.
