Thanked: 0First shave with a Wedge...
I shaved with a Wedge tonight that I bought on Ebay. Horn scales, lightly pitted blade. Holley is the Brand. 6/8" I believe. Heavy blade.
Got her cheap. I wanted it because it was a Wedge and the edge was in really good shape. No nicks on the edge. I two stage honed it, stropped the dickens out of it on several occasions.
I heard Wedges were a good choice for heavy beards, or for a weeks worth or more.
I must have put a pretty good edge on her because she performed beautifully!
I have shaved this much growth with a full hollow ground edge only to bleed like a feild dressed deer.
This must be the Bush Hog of razors because it took it down. I will use my full hollow ground in a day or two, but will certainly use this for the "Heavy Work".

Thanked: 4942Awesome!
Holley's and most US made razors from that era, are usually wonderful shavers.
Have fun,

Glad to hear that you're enjoying the razor. As a fellow beginner, I'm very impressed that you managed to put such a sharp edge on a wedge. I'm just learning how to hone, and wedges are proving tough. Hats off to you.

Nice! Glad you're enjoying it..!
Wedges are a very different feel to hollow ground razors, and the first time I used one the thing I remember most was the almost silent shave and the extra weight in my hand.
Any chance of some pics of your razor?

Congrats on the nice hone job.
It must be all that extra mass the wedges and other heavy razor's have that give them ability to plow. Kinda like mowing the grass with a bushhog instead of a lawn boy, you think? The bevel's have a greater angle too.

Thanked: 0Thank you all!
This is an ugly razor (better looking now... I polished it up some with mold polish between my fingers). Still has some old surface pitting. I hope to get some pictures of the old girl up here for Stubear. If I can figure it out!
However, you have to remember... looks are not everything.
I hope a couple of pics uploadeed for you. I thought I did it OK.
