I'm a guy but have had plenty (and I mean plenty!) of experience shaving my legs (among other body parts) for swimming. My weapon of choice was the Mach 3 and disposable blades.

My routine was to trim them with an electric buzzer (girls probably can skip that step), go WTG using disposables and finally ATG using the Mach 3. My experience with this routine is part of the reason why I strayed towards straight razor shaving, in that it would take a couple of Mach 3 cartridges for each leg. By the time I was done with the legs, I had gone through 4 or 5 disposable blades and 4 or 5 Mach 3 blades. Just for my legs, and after having buzzed them! About $25 wasted right there.

But the results were that I had silky smooth legs for about two days before the stubble became noticeable, and even then only when rubbing against the grain.

Freshly shaven, my legs were very sensitive; it was a strange sensation feeling the fabric from pants against my legs. Cold air felt even colder. A gust of wind on my legs felt very smooth & streamlined.

If I could go back, I would've shaved my legs with a straight razor, even as a novice I'm saying this. Save the $$ on those infernal cartridges.

I cant really help you with your questions, but definately get a DE razor rather than a Venus or something.

The Venus blades are extortionately expensive and you should avoid paying out for them if you possibly can. DE blades are a few bucks for a pack of 10 and give a much better result than cartridge razors IMO.

    Good luck!
