First Shave
First off want to thank SRD for a great shave ready razor and Jockey for his great videos. I watched Jockey's videos quite a bit before attempting my first shave and would like to credit him for my lack of blood loss.
Well I did my first shave today. I took a nice hot shower and got what I thought was some half way decent lather. I will work on that as time goes on I think I will get the hang of it. Well I decided to just go for it and shave my whole face including the chin and upper lip. Again thanks to Jockey for his great upper lip shaving tip on one of his youtube vids. So I thought the shave came out pretty good no worse then my shick hydro. I went wtg and across the grain did not attempt against the grain yet. I did get a couple nicks but nothing bad. I got some pulling but that was just me working on the angle.
Over all I got to say I liked the whole experience for my first time out. Now I know what members say about how it was relaxing. I just took my time and tried to enjoy the whole experience. I am looking forward to my next shave now.
One question though. I used the strop after I shaved I did 20 passes on the cloth side first then 40 on the leather is that the right order or is it leather then cloth or does it not matter.
And thanks to all on this community without this place I do not think I would of attempted to try this. Now I will hope to learn a skill that I can pass along to my son someday.

Stropping
Is that enough passes as well. When I started on the leather it had a bit of a hum to it and then went away I am assuming that was just the edge flattening out again. At least that is what I hope and that I was not hurting the razor.

I have also watched Jockey's youtube videos religiously. He really has a great way of explaining things so that newbies like us can get it. Congratulations on a great first shave. I am only three weeks into straight shaving myself, and it is only getting better and better. It's just too bad that so many men are missing out and settling for bits of plastic and canned goo when this wonderful art is just a few feet over the horizon.
