soap vs. cream
I have been shaving with a straight razor for almost a month now.My shaves have been getting consistently better. My soap is about gone and I've been looking to get some more.I have found several vendors on this site that appear to sell a quality product.I was wondering what if any is the difference is between using soap and using a cream?I could also use some recommendations.Thank You

Thanked: 199Some people say creams are easier for beginners. personally I never had trouble getting good lather from either. Soaps may be a little less moisturizing on the face, but I usually use a couple drops of glycerine when whipping up my soaps, and that adds a little moistureizing to the lather, IMO

Being new myself I'm experimenting and thought you might be interested in this:
Truefitt & Hill - Truefitt Sample Pak Shave Cream
I just ordered it to try out. I have worked my way through a puck of Tabac which I found made excellent lather once I figured out the right amount of water to use. I like the smell too. I wanted to try creams, and I had seen this sample pack linked by someone else recommending Truefitt & Hill's products so i figured why not, $10 is a cheap way to find out if you like it in my opinion.
Check the review section of the site too, most of the big names have been reviewed.

Thanked: 13Geo F Trumper sells a sample pack, too, for five bucks to the US. You should try CarrieM's creams, and Alraz's creams as well. both are excellent quality. SRD sells soap sample packs for very reasonable prices so you can try all of them and zero in on your scents. Creams are great and my preference, but great soaps are also wonderful and give incredible lathers when done right. Lather up some of Al's creams and you'll see what staying power is...
