Second shave, WOW this is smooth
Decided after years of using the Mach 3 & then the Fusion razors that I've had enough of paying too much for these cartridges & still not get the shave that I want.
Went through Vintage Blades & got me a Dovo 6/8 Carbon Black with Strop, Col Conk soap, Mug, Brush & Brush Holder.
Yesterday I just tried it & I did OK but not great, nicked my ear a little.
Tonight I stropped my razor 20/40 "I know I should have done more but learning" & used the gear I had just bought but this time with more patience & paying attention to my control over the razor.
Wow now this is a close shave, I haven't had this feel since I was using my grand dads ole Safety Razor 25 years ago, I know that I still have a lot to learn but I am hooked.

Thanked: 5I'm new here too, but it sounds like you're really enjoying yourself and doing great for your second shave!
Welcome to SRP and good luck!

I've been doing this a few months and have just started to get really close shaves WTG, I don't do ATG. I know what you mean about getting hooked. If more guys tried it I doubt they would go back to cartridges. Congrats on picking it up so quickly!

I started with the str8 2 weeks ago and I'm hooked! I having some trouble with my chin and also making multiple passes WTG, XTG, ATG, but boy is it ever a great shave. And I'm not even any good at it yet! Getting a few nicks here and there and I still follow up with the Mach 3, but each day there is less and less to clean up. Today I almost didn't need the Mach 3 followup, only a couple of places. I'm amazed how close the shave is! Now I just need to keep learning and figure out the tricky parts.

Thanked: 1I was tempted to touch up areas with a more 'known' razor after starting but I read somewhere to just let it be and work on it the next time, without touching up. It forces you to learn the trouble areas better and allows you to master the skill of straight razor quicker and with more confidence... It worked for me, although I had some thicker patches the first week or so but quickly figured out how to handle those areas the following shaves... Just passing along what I've found to work...

Yeah, my first pass is WTG & second pass is ATG.
I have a Goatee so I don't worry about around the chin or the upper lip area & start by the burns & work my way down going around my goatee. My second pass is still a little tricky but I managed working from the neck up to my jaw line then the jaw line up to my burns.
