Well, after doing a bit of research I took a look on ebay for a Swaty hone. I just won this auction now. Any experts care to tell me anything about my purchase?

I figure I'll get a classicshaving.com sharpening job and then use this hone to keep things touched up. If I guess correctly, this hone is for finishing touches?

It'll be used on a Boker King Cutter I got on ebay for $10. Seems like I have good luck on ebay

Yes this hone is for touch up and finishing a razor. Joe Lerch and Hal Wilson and some others will give you a lot more info on this hone.

This hone will work great for keeping your razor keen. I would lap it with 600 grit paper on a flat surface. I like to use a thick piece of glass. Once the hone is making contact with all of the paper move up to 1200 grit then finish off with 2000 grit. For touching up a razor keep the hone wet then on your last trips over the hone I like to use lather or even liquid soap. Lap both sides of the hone, you might find one side is finer than the other.

Place this hone in your collection...buy a norton 4000/8000 and a belgian coticule stone...get your razor or razors honed by lynn so you have shave ready razors in hand...hone should last 2-3 months during which time you can improve your shaving and stroping skills... then learn to hone on norton & belgium stones...much easier to use!

After you lap it, use it to refresh the razor. If you find that the razor is starting to pull a little after it's stropped, do just a few round trips on the Swaty and it will come back to where it was. Do it whenever the razor seems to be losing its keenness. If you keep doing this you can put off a real honing indefinitely. I use my Swaty dry, but you get more control and variation of cutting if you use water, lather etc. Using it dry you need to keep the pressure very low, and it will require freequent cleaning.

The branded side of the stone is a little finer than the other side.

You don't need the Norton 4/8K unless you're planning on getting into serious honing (e.g. Ebay razors). If you can use the refreshing approach to delay honings long enough, you may be able to just have that done occasionally by an expert.

Joe, on how many laps you find your Itsapeech to show some black marks?? I don't notice them at all on mine, and I have used it for quite some time...
