    Default Hello folks:)

I have a love for very sharp things too...lolol

I have a couple of old straight razors that belonged to my grandfather. What would be the best way to treat them? I know a little about knives, but these blades are out of my comfort zone. I know I like them though

Welcome to SRP. I can't tell if it's because I am old and don't have on my glasses or the small screen of the laptop, or maybe a combination of both, but I can't really see what is printed on the tangs of your razors. Could you please let us know what they say? If you ever want to delve into shaving with those razors, this is the place to start your journey. Check out wiki for info and the classifieds for member services regarding restoring those heirlooms.

    Welcome to SRP!!!

Well, you can shine them up, have them honed, and start shaving with them if you like. You can either do the shining yourself, or there are pro's here that will clean them up for a price. You should have them at least pro honed if you want to shave with them.

    Default Thanks for the welcome

    I appreciate it guys.

The light colored razor on top says "Badenia" on one side of the tang, an reads "Ludwig Baer germany" on the other side.

The razor with the black handle reads "Wade & Butch, Sheffield England"

I might hire someone to clean these up for me.

I'll take a crack at it. I would get some Maas and polish them to a shine then send them off to a hone mastro to get them into working order once again. Unfortunately my family likes to discard everything so the wonderful old blades my fore fathers used are not available. My str8 of choice is a brand new 7/8 stainless steel dovo.

Default Have a feeling one might need restoration and scales

The Badenia (top) has a chunk taken out of one of the scales.

The Wade and Butch has some seious deep scratching on one scale, looks like a kid tried to carve something on it, maybe my dad.

If I can get these razors refurbished at a reasonable price I will shave with them. I'm glad I saved them from my brothers estate sale on our parents house. I will try to post more detailed pics tomorrow.

I browsed the classifieds, but any recomendations are welcome.
