Default Captain's Log: Shave Date 2010Sept09

Got my first Straight razor that I order form Amazon. Took about month to get here but the wait was worth it. Shave my sideburns with no real problem, but that cause me to get over confident. So I decide to shave the rest of my face... Got a decent shave but I look like I just got out of a fire fight. Will continue to practice and update the board on my endeavor to master the straight razor out here in Afghanistan.

Congrats on your first shave! Glad you enjoyed it..!

What razor did you get from Amazon by the way?

You'll find that as your technique improves you get less irritation after the shave. Its definately one of those skills where practice makes perfect!

Parker SRW Stainless Steel Straight Edge Barber Razor

Amazon.com: Parker SRW Stainless Steel Straight Edge Barber Razor & 120 Shark Super Stainless Blades: Health & Personal Care

It was cheap LOL. I have real one on the way a great member by the name of gssixgun has donated me one. While ianp1966 has donated a strop and simpsonry has sent me some cream. But the one I got right now is just a training one right now.

    Sweet!

You'll notice a real difference between the shavette and the straight that Glen is sending you as well, the edges feel totally different.

Hope you enjoy all the new toys..!

Congrats, and welcome to the right way to shave. You'll be getting a great razor from Glen, a stand up guy. Take your time during the learning process. Your face will appreciate it and thank you for it. Get the feel of the razor in your hand, and the blade against your face. Focus on angles and pressures. In no time you will be achieving that coveted BBS...

It's great to see the generosity of SRP coming through again. I've never experianced a shavette but it seems a good way to start, allowing you to concentrate on shaving techinique without having to worry about stropping and messing up the blade. Good luck on your shaving journey, keep us posted!

The chin and neck are tougher areas to get right. The angles change more than the cheeks and the neck is typically a much more sensitive area as well.

Good preshave prep really helps here, as well as a good lather. You'll also find things improve as you shave more as well..!

    Glad you're enjoying the ride!
