Thanked: 4942I am getting sense here of typical new guy problems. I am seeing pressure using the thumbs, I'm not sure exactly how the X strokes are being done and more complicated honing methods are being tried out of the box. If excess pressure is applied to the middle of the blade, the blade will end up frowned.
It would be my recommendation to try to learn the basics first. X stroke with limited to no pressure.You can then attempt circles and more pressure. The key at first is keeping the entire blade flat as you do your X strokes or circles. Flat means the edge and the spine touching the hone. Fewer strokes are better.
Learn to hone first, learn to repair when you have a better handle on honing.
