    Default Lipscomb Razor

I found an old Lipscomb straight razor at an antique shop for $55. It seems to be in OK condition, it has some patina and wear I will check it out tomorrow. it has black scales and looks a lot like my Geneva cutlery razor. Is $55 a good deal and has anyone heard of this razor? thanks for any help, this may be my second straight razor.

    Thanks

    Travis

Welcome to SRP. I haven't heard of that brand. Before you plunk down your hard earned $55.00 it would be a good idea to post a pic of the blade. More knowledgeable members can assess the condition and advise as to whether it is worth the money.

Well that is probably a supplier in Nashville that had a company make the razor for them. If it is not marked with a country of origin, Solingen for example, it may be a USA made razor. If it is an old vintage razor chances are you'll never know who made it. The question is whether the condition warrants the $55.00 price tag.

I was just at the antique store that had it. the razor has a broken scale. The blade looks like its a quality blade, on par or better than my Geneva cutlery, with some patina, not rust. do you thick its worth $55 with broken scales? if not what do you think it would be worth? Thanks for the help, I know its hard to value something without looking at it.

We don't do appraisals here, especially on razors that we can't see.

I can say for sure that there is only one razor I've ever paid that much for at an antique store, and that's because there was something special about that particular razor.

edit: Just for giggles, look at the shave ready razors that are $75 in the classifieds here. After $55 for your antique store blade, and $20 to have it honed, that's where you'd end up.
Is there anything in the classifieds for $75 that's nicer than what you're looking at??? (that's meant to be a rhetorical question - not to be answered here, just to yourself)
