Okay, I'm going to expose myself as an idiot right now.

What exactly is Pitting? And for that matter, when it comes to honing, what is BBW?



And why is the sky blue?

I'll take a quick stab at pitting, until someone wants to weigh in on it in more detail ... it is the loss of metal caused by rust/corrosion/oxidation resulting in pits in the steel.

As to BBW, I assume it means Belgian Blue Whetstone ... as opposed to Baby Butt Whiskers :-)

Correct, and specifically it refers to the cratering effect left behind--small pits.

The Big Beautiful Woman reference as is commonly found in pornography or in some sexual reference was taken from a magazine by the same name. This knowledge is not of any importance just another stupid bit of trivia.
