It's hard to get those tricky angles. You'll have to use your non-dominant hand I'm afraid. Better start practicing!

Also I just store my razors on an open shelf in the bathroom. So far it's been fine...

As for the soap, no I don't dry it with a towel or anything. It's a little messy but I just leave it there.

    Hello, basil:

    Thanks for your note.

Yes, yes, of course, I considered a modular paddle strop or a multiple-sided model.

But then such strops do not have "hones" in the literal sense that I know of; rather, they have different sides for "pastes." I realize the "pasted strop" to some extent plays the role of a "hone" in accomplishing some type of sharpening, but it is not officially the standard "hone."

Unless such a product exists and with which I am not familiar. In that case I stand corrected. Or it could be a question of semantics and that the word "hone" was used instead of "pasted strop," which is understandable.

Welcome to SRP Dcollier! You have a great setup on it's way to you. Take your time, start slow and read some of the articles in the WIKI (on the menu bar at the top of this page) and you'll do just fine. We look forward to reading of your progress and assisting you with any concerns you may have.

Welcome, you have a good start by buying a nice set.
The shaves will be better, have patience and practice. Use light pressure on your razor and stretch your skin.
The chin remains a delicate issue ..... but relax you will get there.

    Welcome!
You're off to a good start. Some folks are disappointed with their first results. As for the other areas and angles etc. they take time which is one of the good things about straight razor shaving, you have these little triumphs each time. There is one thing I should warn you about and that's R.A.D. Razor acquisition disorder very contagious!
    Meanwhile, continue having fun!

    Default Thanks guys

Thanks for the welcome again guys!

I shave in the morning and at night all week-end, and I think I'm starting to get the hang of it.

I find myself stropping the razor a lot. Like I'll strop it maybe 4 or 5 times during the course of a shave. I feel like it's helping, but I really don't think I can judge yet, is this crazy (placebo effect)?

Still can't get the sides of my chin right. But everything else is starting to rival my electric shaver. I find myself using just water and moisturizing lotion more so than my soap. I've never had much luck with shaving cream, even when using the cartridge, I always just used hot water and what-ever stuff they put on the razor cartridge.

I don't have any pre-shave oil yet, so I'm going to pick some up and try it out.

I tried using bio-oil a couple times, to help with the razor burn, it seemed to work well with healing, but it's way too expensive to use daily.
