    Default Hello, all.

    Hi guys,

Just started shaving with a "straight" razor (i.e. a Parker with disposable blades). None too legit, but wanted to get a taste before jumping in. I've perused the forum for a few days now and decided to hit ebay for a deal. I won a razor just now, actually. I seriously doubt it's shave ready, but I'm hoping to send it to get honed as soon as it arrives.

I hope it's a decent one. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Anyway, for $5.24 it seems like a steal!

Thanks for all the awesome info I've been able to read so far. It has been a great help.

    Welcome to SRP.
You can never be too sure from ebay pictures, but I think you got yourself a very nice razor, and at a great price.
Send it out to one of the Honemisters in the classifieds and enjoy the ride from there. Warning this can get addictive.

At that price you can't even get a decent pocket knife !
    Congrats.

Welcome to SRP Brandon! You did real good on the razor. Torrey's are good shavers. Once you get it properly honed you will enjoy the razor. How long have you been shaving with the Parker? Do you have a strop to go with the Torrey?

That is actually a great starter..You can't beat the price.....You could hone it yourself and take the learning curve. pick up a 1000 grit, 4000, 80000 and a strop and you will be in bidness! or send it to a honemeister (I hane my own, but am not a meister)for a quicker turn araound and a lot cheaper...buy a strop and pick your Nortons 4000 , 8000 to keep it sharp.

I've been shaving with the parker for a couple weeks now. It's ok. It can bite you, though. I've definitely experienced a good cut with it. But, all the other things are quite enjoyable. Got some Proraso for sensitive skin. Love that stuff.

I'm going to get a strop. Probably when I send the razor to be honed. I was going to run down to the antique mall today and see if they had any good looking old strops, actually.

I might eventually try to hone my own. I'm pretty good with knives, but a razor is a whole different ball game. I've gotten my buck knife sharp enough to shave my arm, but I don't think I'm going to Crocodile Dundee with it!

Thanks for all the welcomes! Hope to learn a lot from this place.
