    Thumbs up Shave #1

I got my new SR yesterday in the mail. Here are how things went.

Stropping was a bit more awkward than expected. I had no issue keeping the spine on the strop, but I kept wanting to lift the edge off the leather. I would also lift the razor off the strop all together at the end of my stroke. I eventually got it, it just took a while.

I apparently did a terrible job making my lather (using soap). I thought I made plenty, but I didn't have enough for my entire face. I think I applied it to thinly as well, it dried on the opposite side of my face before I got to shave there.

Shaving wasn't to bad. The start of every stroke was the toughest. I'm thinking I was just nervous. I ended up just shaving from my jawline up. I couldn't make it around the "corner".

Overall it worked well. The razor was extremely sharp and shaved way closer (one pass WTG) than my cartridge. I look forward to giving it another try in a day or so. I want to build up a bit more stubble before I try again.

Grats on the first shave. I still lift the razor off the stop from time to time.

I found if you make the O face you can get the jaw line easy.

And no tales of carnage. Geez. You're certainly doing alot of things right.

It won't be a string of unbroken successes, but you're certainly off to a good start, and likely the best shaves of your life.

Hang here often. I don't think I've ever found another site on any topic where the attitudes and quality of help are better.

    Enjoy!

Well done on the first shave! Certainly did better than I did first time around.....

Just remember to keep a very light touch and let the razor do the work for you. I found that using a sort of hinge-like downward stroke (semi circle) really helps with the jawline. This forum is a great source and there are some guys here who will forget more about straight razor shaving than I will ever know.

    Welcome, and Cheers.

    Default first shave

I had my first shave about an hour ago. It was really awkward. It wasn't as close as I had hoped. I was foolish enough to go back and try again without properly prepping my face. Despite my stupidity, my face is feeling okay. The soap works great.

I used a new Dovo invisible edge razor. I also purchased a shave ready rodgers blade. Should I get used to the dovo before I try using the other blade?

    ugh, I lack patience.

    UPDATE!

Things are still going well. I've gotten darn good at stropping, kind of surprised.

Things started off a bit rough, I was making my lather incorrectly. It was way to dry. I am finally making a decent lather and that made a world of difference.

I even tried my hand and shaving my brother-in-laws face (brave soul). I actually didn't do to bad. He did have a handful of "zits" on his neck that I buchered though.
