Thanked: 0Newbie ?
I havent taken the plunge yet. I am still gathering info and probably just purchase the starter set as suggested. Also saw where having two razors was suggested which leads me to my questions. Made yard sale purchase while back of razor. I would like guidance on maybe place to send it for cleaning, honing, etc. Maybe price range for services and if it is even worth the trouble. Brand is Henckles Twin. Blade edge has wire feel and also some speckling(patina/rust?) I know lot of variables but had to start somewhere with questions and not even sure if posted in correct place. Thanks.

The Classifieds is a good place to look for Honing and Restoration. You can PM the member that offers the service to talk about what needs to be done. You can also look online at a few vender's and see what they offer Honing and Restoration wise.
Straight Razor Design is one example of a good vendor that offers honing services and good quality products, I am sure others will have some good ones depending on where you are located.
Some decent resolution pictures will also help in determining anything about the razor.

Thanked: 0Thanks. I thought about taking the pics but not sure if i should bother everyone here or wait until I got in contact with someone. Hadn't considered someone in area just assumed I would have to send it. As far as location I noticed I am close to you. I live in Wilkes. So maybe you know the best people in the area?

I use the services of Straight Razor Design right now, and just sent my only Straight to them Friday for Honing. They are in Montana so it isn't a far travel and not very expensive either.
I know there is a member here in North Carolina that I believe does restorations and Honing but I can't think of who it is off the top of my head. He will probably pop in here sometime and and say something. I will keep my eyes open for who it is though.

Welcome To SRP! You are now a member of a community of fine and very helpful members and a world of excellent str8 razor and shaving info. Henckels are fine razors, I have had one for over a year and has served me well. Unless it is completely junk such as deep pitted rust and chips out of edge they are worth getting fixed up and will serve you well for many years. Good luck in your str8 razor shaving journey, help and info are always available here, just ask.

I just rescaled a Henckels in Cocobolo
http://straightrazorpalace.com/custo...-cocobolo.html
I honed it up and shaved with it yesterday. I really like it, I'm sure you will too. I have several restored razors, and I prefer them over the 2 new I bought. I am not sure if it is because of pride of using something I restored, or because the new ones are a bit beefier than the vintage ones I have, probably a combination of both. Good luck in your quest.
