Forget the fear!
Hey all!
So after months of research and one false start with a dud 'razor' I finally got my first 'proper' SR shave today!
I bought myself a shave ready Hibbard-Spencer-Bartlett (£40 was an absolute bargain!) and lathered up. Of course, I took my time over what I did. But the patience was rewarded - I managed 2 passes (WTG and sort of XTG) and emerged with only a little reddening on my neck. No cuts or nicks! Beginners luck maybe, and there were a couple of spots I had to touch up with my DE but otherwise a damn fine shave!
So the point is that I say to other beginners; in the words of the late, great Douglas Adams - DON'T PANIC! Obviously show the blade the respect it deserves, but take your time and stop if you feel uncomfortable. It's not as hard as people believe as long as you don't aim for perfection immediately.
And thanks to everyone who's chipped in advice in the forums and wiki - it certainly made my first SR shave a good one, and I'm now hooked!

I agree!
You must respect the blade, I think being to tentative with it also causes people problems.
I think the most dangerous part of SR shaving is the looming Acquisition Disorders. Be careful they are very easy to catch.
Glad things are going well keep it up it gets even better!
