    Default New here.

    Hey folks,

Just thought I would introduce myself. Long time lurker, DE safety razor user wanting to make the switch over to a straight. I still have a lot to learn regarding honing, and general razor maintenance. I am looking forward to learning a lot here, and hope in the future I can contribute to the forum like many of you already have.

    Regards,

    Zoete

What part of the world are you located?

First off lay off honing this year and take a look at the straight razor & strop sets frome some of the adverticing vendors
We have the Main Index - Straight Razor Place Classifieds if you want to stay on a budget or just want some great vintage equipment

Ask questions, Avoid ebay, Ask about shops(we know them)

Couldn't agree more! Your first focus should be developing your shaving skills. You don't need to be trying to figure out what the problem is, bad edge or bad technique when learning. Having said that, you should get yourself a barbers hone and/or a pasted strop to freshen the edge periodically. The money you spend getting the razor professionally honed is a great investment. I also highly recommend getting a copy of Lynn's CD, another good investment.

Putting the right edge on your razor is not the same as sharpening your kitchen or hunting knives. Don't think you will be saving a lot of money by having your buddy who sharpens knives put the edge on it, unless that buddy also shaves with straight razors. Your face will be eternally grateful to you.

And, welcome to the right way to shave!!
