Thread: Getting Ready to buy but...

Hi there, I'm getting ready to purchase my first Razor and was wondering if the Dovo "Prima Klang" Violet 5/8" is a good choice for a first time shaver. (taking cost out of the equation as it will be a gift as well as it is on sale as I get ready to post).

Just looking for a bit of feedback in this regard or if something more standard would suit me better to start off with?

I have found the Dovo Prima Klang to be an excellent razor

The blade is extra-hollow ground, and is very easy to maintain.

Personal preference dicates that some people prefer stiffer grinds, others prefer the more hollow grinds - a lot enjoy all grinds and sizes of blade !

I've never had one of them, but the prima klang dovos are the most hollowed out dovos, i.e. a bit more feedback. New guys tend to prefer stiffer blades, but that's certainly not a rule set in stone.

Thanks for the replies. I've been thinking about this for a while now and think I'm going to pull the trigger. I know in my heart I'm not going to be a one razor man so I will just experiment with a stiffer blade as my 2nd razor.

I've shaved with one and they are very nice little razors!

I don't own a Prima Klang, but I am wondering what is drawing you to one?

I guess a couple factors, tangible and not. My first is that after my reading and searching the internet for reviews, Dovo is known for making a quality razor, simple. The Prima Klang has also received very good reviews.

Now the intangible - I am very much in the school of thought that you get what you pay for. To me that doesn't mean the most expensive is the best but on the low end of the scale it is very relevant. I don't want to invest in a razor and only after 6 months be wanting to "upgrade" once I have gotten somewhat proficient.

Finally and I realize this is not the most important factor here, I think it is a good looking blade. Price did play a factor here as it was on the SRD website for a nicely reduced price, unfortunately, I missed that window it appears and now I have to re-evaluate my decision.

Ok, I gotcha. I agree with the brand name, I own several myself. I agree with the "upgrade" statement, that was my thought when I first started.

So I was looking for the wow factor for it, and you stated it - you just liked the way it looked. I think a lot of people buy that way as well. I bought the Dovo Bismark in black for the very same reason. I just liked its looks.

There is a very steep learning curve with straight razor shaving, and I think that if you buy something that you are very attached to, it makes the challenge all the more enjoyable and increases the likelihood you will stick it out. JMHO.
