Caring & Storage of your razor
I have a question about daily care & storage of my straight razors as I'm new to this art. I thought I had seen something in the wiki or in the beginners corner while doing my initial research but I can't find it now. My issue is that I have two razors and only one stand (I know I should buy more stands) and I'm planning on rotating my razors about once a week since I'm only shaving with them every other day.
How do most people here store the razor they are not shaving with on a daily basis?
Can I keep my razor I'm not using that week in the Dovo box it came in? Should I put some Vaseline (or something else) on the blade when it's been put into storage?
Thank you and any help is appreciated.

i have hundreds of razors and zero stands, as you probably can imagine they're all over the house.
vaseline may not be necessary, but you need to dry out your razor before closing it. often people leave moisture trapped between the scales and next time they open the razor find rust on the blade.
i usually have 5-6 razors in the bathroom. some of them are sitting open on the shelves or the windowsill because after i'm done i dry them and leave them open to airdry completely and then i just forget to close them.
no problems but i'm in the middle of ny, so while relatively humid it's probably less so than in louisiana.

Eric,
After ensuring the razor is dry after the shave, a lot of people find they don't need a preservative if they are shaving daily with the razor.
I live very near the English Channel in an old Victorian house, so I prefer to use a protectant on my blades.
After rinsing the blade with hot water and towel drying, I leave the razor open, in the air, for an hour or two, then I coat the blade with Sentry Solutions TufGlide - this is a dry film protectant, then store the razor in a Tupperware like box (which holds ca 4 - 5 razors).
Baby oil (which is a mineral oil) does a good job too, and is in-expensive and easily available.
Personally, I would like to store the blade in a container with a bit more air-space than a Dovo razor coffin, but so saying I stored two (2) Wapis in the Dovo coffin for a year with no ill results
I wouldn't get anxious about this matter - try storing the razor in the Dovo coffin, but do check regularly for rust - if all is OK, you are good to go !
Have fun !
Best regards
Russ
