Straight razors are a lot more reliant on technique than other ways of shaving. If the place you got your razor from is reliable (ie: not one of those 'art of shaving' places that sells straights but knows nothing about them) then you should trust the people who honed your razor.

You should start straight shaving with the understanding that it is going to take awhile to get a good shave. Just keep at it, (you can always touch up with the DE after your straight shave) and before you know it you will be getting the best shaves of your life.
