    Default Washed Steel ?

Does anyone know if there is special care for, say a razor with a blue or gold washed tang. Would one use any kind of special oil to preserve it, or just oil it as if it was just regular looking shinny steel, that is after shaving with it till next shave ?

Blued steel is a treatment/finish like a gun has and is relatively stable and wears well if you don't use any heavy duty abrasive on it. Gold wash is another story. You just use the razor and enjoy it and avoid all abrasives and heavy duty cleaners or even rubbing. Even then it wears pretty poorly. You could probably wax over it but then you have to rub the wax on. Personally, I hate gold wash unless its an occasional use razor which is kept oiled between use. The oil doesn't protect the gold, only the steel.

    blugill,

For me, unless the razor was particularly 'special' in some way, I would just use it and not worry about the blue/gold-wash.

The blue, and particularly the gold wash will wear over time, but that is expected from any working tool.

One of my nicest shavers is my 'Tatty Puma'. It looks a bit 'tired', but the edge is spot on, and it shaves beautifully; eye candy it is not, but I am very fond of that razor

    Have fun !

    Best regards
