Default Bought some Proraso shaving soap and First Aid Salve, now I need directions.

Decided I better buy some shaving salve as I nicked myself pretty good for the first time today. I read somewhere, I believe on this forum that spruce oil stops the bleeding of minor cuts, so I picked up some "Petro-Carbo Medicated First Aid Salve" from Target. I stumbled across the salve while I was looking for the legendary Proraso shaving soap Charlie, A.K.A. Clarman told me about. I know how to use the salve of course, but I'm not quite sure how to use the Proraso as it seems kind of soft, just get the brush wet and whip up a later in the dish the soap comes in? Thanks for your assistance in advance,

    John

You've pretty much got it. Load up the bristles in the bowl, then continue to build the lather either on you face, hand, or in a seperate bowl.

john remember to stretch your skin tightly and light pressure on razor...also make sure lather is rubbed well into beard use brush or fingers tomake sure your skin isnt dry under lather for first pass...many shavers dont get their face lubricated well enough before first pass...the razor skips over dry skin under lather and digs into face....blood!

If your face or fingers seem too slippery to firmly stretch your skin you can use a damp washcloth. I started using this technique from the advice of one of the members here (sorry, I do not remember who) after my fingers slipped while I was shaving and I cut myself.

Already on it. Charlie gave me a great deal of advice and that is one of the gems he provided.

Thanks for the tips everyone. Charlie, thanks for steering me towards Proraso, I will pick up the other stuff you recommended as well. The Proraso shaving cream seems to lather up and not dry out as quickly as the soap that came with my starter kit.

Thanks again for the tips Charlie. The Proraso you recommended is great, a nice creamy lather with ample lubrication. I worked the lather in to the skin today and my shave was a lot more comfortable. I also remembered about the skin stretching you mentioned during our conversation, it seems to be a lot of a good shave is in the stretch. I must say I'm enjoying shaving with the straight, I find it relaxing. I want to pick up the Dovo razor the is blued but it is on backorder. I have to get one of the razors honed by the legendary Lynn, want to see what all the fuss is about.

Legendary is true. I admire Lynn's skills and ability to create an edge the likes of which I've never experienced before. Heck, I might have to send all my razors to him because he's added new sharpening tools in his arsenal. Believe me, you'll have a new appreciation for sharpness.

I just got 4 razors back from Lynn yesterday...Let's put it this way...Be careful taking them out of the razor boxes. YES they are THAT SHARP. I can't wait to shave with one this AM.
