    Default A strop with webbing

The strop I bought from straight razor designs has a second strop made of a webbing material. They say it can be used with paste. Is there any reason to use it without paste? What would be the best paste to use on it?

The linen or nylon webbing is a nice compliment to any leather strop. The whole purpose of stropping is to realign the very edge of the razor after it has been slightly blunted by shaving. Think of a fresh edge looking like "|" and a post shave edge looking like "J" IMO the webbing side probably catches the edge and aligns it quicker, but the leather is still needed to get that nice refined edge and final burninshing that makes a razor ready to put to face.

The side of the webbing that faces the backside of the strop is a great spot for paste. Here is a nice tutorial on how to past a strop properly.

Different people like different pastes for one reason or another. If you are looking to use paste to hold off honing, you might want a coarser variety. If you are looking for paste to get that extra smooth edge, you may want a finer variety.

I have one and from what I can tell the result on using it plain as compared to a linen or canvas is really the same.
