Thanked: 0Straight Razor Design
I just ordered a Boker SS razor and the website claims these razors have been hand honed prior to purchase......does this mean these particular ones are shave ready or is this another example of a "shave ready" razor that is not truly ready to be shaved with?

Thanked: 1371The razors from SRD are not only hand-honed, they are honed by the founder of SRP, Lynn Abrams.
You can rest assured that razors from SRD are truly shave ready.
Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.

Yes they are Shave ready.
Welcome!
Lynn they gentleman that is in the videos you see to the right on the home page, and the man who started this forum lays hands on (hones) all the blades from SRD. It is also his shop.
If you have not stropped or shaved a straight razor before I would recommend that you not strop the razor for your first shave. Lynn will have already done that for you. This gives you the best chance of getting a shave in with a good edge in case your first stropping session goes horribly wrong.
Stropping Slow and Steady
Shaving mix the lather longer than you think you need to.
Prep you face with lots of water.
Shaving first time Start with just your cheeks.
Make sure to check out the Wiki and the videos i found them very helpful.
Good luck! let us know if you have any other questions and how it goes.

Welcome to SRP Eric. You can rest assured that the Boker will be shave ready. Be aware that there is a learning curve in using a straight razor and in the beginning it may not seem to be giving you a shave equal to what you've been using. This is normal and as you learn to properly use a straight you'll find the shaves get better and better.
Here is the beginner's guide in the SRP Wiki. Check out Lynn's suggestions for the first straight razor shaves and follow them for best results.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I got a Boker Edelweisse from SRD a year or so ago and I can testify that it was very shave ready! You're in great hands with anything from there.
Good luck and keep us posted!

Thanked: 240As everyone has told you already SRD is to be trusted. While there are some sites out there that do sell razors as shave ready when they are not you do not need to worry about SRD. Your razor was professionally honed by a man who has more experience honing razors than possibly anyone else, and as such you will be able to eliminate the razor's sharpness from your list of variables when learning to shave. I have three razors honed by Lynn and all have flawless edges. Also if you purchased the razor recently I believe SRD is including free honings for life which over the life of the razor will pay for the razor many times over. Welcome to SRD and enjoy the journey!
