Default Just get on with it!

As someone very new to the "Art" I find that everytime I pick the bloody (no pun intended) thing up im thinking, is it sharp enough, is it creamy enough is it the right angle, where do I start....Arggggghhhhhh!!!

It does make me smile though, its only a shave after all I have been doing it for 23 Years and now I feel like a teenager again

I feel like I just started shaving as well. The other day I was like yeah shaved entire face one pass and didn't cut myself. Then blam cut myself in the same spot. But it's only been a month. I love the fact that I can't wait to shave. I'm glad I decided I wanted to do this. It's fun and the people are very nice.

You might find also as I have, that this is a great way to get rid of some of lifes doldrums and blahs. If I am stressed out or I'm having a crummy day,I have found that straight shaving gives me a nice little cheer up. Glad to hear you are enjoying it. Happy shaves guys !!

It really is the last bastion of manhood that is truly our own...I look forward to my daily shave... It is the only pampering I allow myself....I think manicures, hairstylyles, pedicures and massages are not really owned by men...Shaving...That is ours and nobody can take that daily timeless ritual away....So learn to enjoy it...It should not be a hurried affair. The shave should be enjoyed and revilled in as an expression of your dominance over your kingdom....Okay, that's a little much...But, you get the picture.....Guys dig knives and it really feels great to shave with a straight.

I agree with Wintchase ,it really is the last bastion of manly freedom. I think some folks I know are actually jealous of the fact that I shave with a straight. This is becoming more of a herd mentality society , and straight shaving reeks of independent thinking. Most of the herd just wants to be magically whisker free so they can get on with being cattle. Wake up and smell the shaving cream herd !!

The women folk can keep their pedicures but I am planning on taking back massages in 2011.

I find it had a calming effect, as it requires total concentration.
I strop my razor with my eyes closed.

I love my straight, I had a shavette for 6 months before I had my straight and still managed to shave everyday. When I had my mach3 I shaved once maybe twice a week. I hope the joy of the straight does not go away because I LOVE shaving everyday with it.

What was 6 months with a Shavette like? I'm 11 shaves into one and finally getting the hang of it, although, to be honest, I don't particularly like it. What was the transition from the Shavette to a proper straight like for you? Any hiccups, problems?

Don't get too upset with it. It will come, how long have you been shaving? When I did my first few it was in a way a bit disheartening as I thought it was something in my manhood nature that I would just know how to do. Nope

It takes time and patience. It is like something you have to study and work at. Not too hard, but when you start to get it, it seems to become second nature. Now I am by no means that good, but after a month I have improved greatly.

Dont give up, as for if it is sharp enough or creamy enough, that is to me personal preference. Sharp enough can only be gauged by having a pro hone your razor and start off with that as your base line. That way you know for sure your razor is sharp. As for the lather, I experiment every time with it. I have had very dry and way too wet. I spent some time one day just playing around with the soap to see what I liked best. You just have to play around with each part till you find what works.

Hope this helped some, not much of an expert, just going off what I have done so far. What I go off of a lot is use extremely light pressure and stretch your skin like crazy. That is what made the biggest difference for me.
