Thanks for all the advice. In retrospect, I must have put way too much pressure on the blade. I'll probably send it out to get honed by a professional just to be sure. Thanks again, guys.
And calling the fire dept. didn't sound like a bad idea at the time! lol

Thanked: 4942The vintage JA Henckels razors are usually great shavers. The new ones, well...........they can be made to shave adequately. They are a little finicky to hone, but will do the job. When new to straight razor shaving, a little face burning is common and typically only lasts a couple days. Light pressure and the proper shaving angle go a long way.
Some great advice for you in this thread.
Have fun,
Lynn

I practically posted this same thread about a month ago. Like everyone has said. Give your face a chance to heal. pay lots of attention to lather and pressure. BTW witch hazel and post shave balm can be your best friends. I picked up some witch hazel and Nivea sensitive post shave balm from walmart for about 6$ well worth it in the beginning stages. If u want more info use the search and put in "razor burn" it may help and let you relate seeing what we all have gone through at one point or another. Keep the faith and the rewards will be worth it.

It's been 3 weeks for me with the straight razor now and I'm still not shaving with it every day yet. I'm up to 5 days out of seven, but my face still seems to enjoy a couple of days off. I couldn't add anything to all the great advice you've already received in this thread. Welcome aboard and keep at it, it gets better every day.
