I have stayed away from the powders for years simply because the stuff is so messy..........

Thanks Lynn that's very informative. Now one last question: I have gone over the wiki notes and I'm trying to determine when do you use the chromium paste? At what stage in the honing process is the chromium used? After the 4/8k Norton or before? I know it is 0.5 microns but what grit does that correspond to?

Thanks again for all the great info guys.
