    Default Transition Preparations...

I will be receiving my new (first) straight razor in about 10 days. I figure that is about 6 shaves or so with my old Mach 3. Should I do any special preparations to my face or routine to prepare for the SR shave.

I figure I could start using the shave soap... but what else should I do?

Before you get your straight razor you could start practicing proper shave prep. That includes everything from using proper shave soap to the multitude of things people here do depending on how much time they wish to spend shaving. I would recomend reading the wiki to learn everything you can about shave prep and decide which things you wish to do.

Start buying styptic powder, and lots of it! Kidding aside, I would suggest reading the various posts/stickies here on how to make a good lather, whether you use soap or cream, as this provides a solid base for a good shave. Best of luck, and don't be disappointed in your first few shaves. After my first SR shaves, my face looked like a rare standing rib roast

Yes..definately a good start to use the shave brush and soap to help get your shave prep down. Also as been said...read the Wiki and prepare. Best of luck to you...let us know how that first real shave goes

    Default preperations

Get a strop and practice with a butter knife so you have the motions down pat when ur razor arrives, So many noobies ruin a good edge with poor stropping tequnique.

Actually, you may be impressed how using shaving soap and a brush can improve, if even slightly, a crappy Mach 3 shave. Such is the power of the badger brush!

One other piece of advice: back off on the pressure. You're going to have to learn to shave with zero pressure, so now is a good time to unlearn some bad habits.

I would second this. I'm still still learning to shave with minimal pressure on the blade. It definitely takes some practice to unlearn this.

Rather testy there, aren't you Bruno?
