Thanked: 0A few shaves in
Have had 4 shaves with a straight so far.
And it feels good, still no spectacular shaves, a few nicks and cuts but so far so good. I have allready nicked my rup strop, but I think I am getting the hang of it. The blade feels better after a leather treatment anyway
Only thing that bothers me is that my skin feels a bit "thin". Is this normal?
After shave I usually apply either fitjar kjakesmurning or a nivea moisturizer. Any other tricks I can use, or will it adjust itself as time passes?

Thanked: 1263Well a few nicks..both on the face and on the strop is pretty normal when you're starting out. It does take a bit for your skin to "adjust" to using a straight..just be careful to use little or no pressure when shaving. It'll get better in time. Good to have you here.

Welcome. Your going down the same path most of us took. The shaves will get better and your skin will get used to it. Takes some time but well worth it.

Sounds like you are on your way. No real shortcuts that I can offer that aren't already found all over this site.
Consider the many variabiles, blade sharpness, smoothness, beard prep, soap/cream, shave pressure, blade angle, beard grain direction, post-shave care............ OK, don't think about all of these things!!
Point is, there's a lot to control with virtually no base-line for comparison as you start. Go slowly and comfortably. Read and do, read and do; experiment gingerly, and most of all...
enjoy; get a kick out of it. Best.... Jim

I think your skin just adjusts by itself. I'm to the point now where something I know would have cut me a month ago does not now. Maybe beginners luck for me. Just go light and slow and stretch the skin as much as you can, that is what works well for me. Good luck and welcome to SRP.

Great to hear your progress! The skin does take time to adjust, so yeah, thats perfectly normal. I've also started using lanolin on my face after my aftershave has worn off, and I love it!
