Dilemma
I've been shaving the past three months with a Dovo Shavette and I believe it has helped with getting my technique down. I am sure that there will be a learning curve with a straight razor as well.
I just recieved from Straight Razor Designs two beautiful Dovos. A Prima and a Bismarck. So my dilemma is which one to try out first.
The Bismarck has a nice heavy, solid feel to it which might be a little different than I am used to. The Prima has an almost feather type of weight. It could be a little more easier to use.
So, I am open to suggestions on this. Tomorrow is the big day.

I think that either one will give you a fine shave. It sounds as if you are feeling a bit more comfortable with the Prima, so I would go with that for a couple of days and then try the Bismarck.
Either way, you have two great razors and can't really go wrong.

I say the Prima. It is a little closer to what you have been using in shape.
The Bismark, having a thumb notch requires a little more attention on the strop. It's a joy to hold/shave with the notch, but a little more "difficult" to strop square.
Embrace the RAD, I see you haven't been shy with that! lol

Thanked: 43I switched from my first razor - a Dovo Special 5/8 - to the Bismarck, and it is a marked difference between the two. I feel as though I'm having to learn to adjust to the weight of the blade to prevent using too much pressure, and have ended up with a bit of razor burn on my neck through the first couple of runs. I really do like the feel of it in the hand, but I feel like the lighter blade meant lighter pressure against the skin. I'd try the Prima first as well. Just my two pennies having gone to the heavier blade.

I used a shavette and went to a Bismark. Not a bad difference minus the weight but I wouldn't trade my Bismark for anything.

It's time to decide!!
That's right mate, man up and pick one, strop the living daylights out'a it and shave, shave as you've never shaved before!!
Oh, and by the way, have a great time doin' it!!
Just my own perverse brain at work here.
