    Default First Good Shave

Well, today I have to say I had my first really good shave. I thought that before I was doing fairly well, but those can't compare with today.

I started with stropping. Just seemed that I was putting way too little pressure, so I added a bit of pressure trying to make sure the edge touched the leather. Then, I managed to make quite a thick and creamy lather (something I'm still working on). Finally, I started shaving and it all just worked. I hit that proper angle for the razor and was just really good.

I still have to work on ATG though. My razor kept wanting to bite into my skin, but overall I got BBS.

    Hello, Fox:

Congratulations. Your efforts are beginning to pay off. Continue to keep the pressure low. The razor's weight is all the pressure you need in stropping as well as shaving. Also, the proper preparation is important. Stay with it.

    Regards,
    Obie

Isn't it great when everything starts to fall into place? Keep it up!

Obie, I was doing trying to do that. But it seemed to me that the way I'm stropping is causing me to slide the razor on it's back without any contact with the edge.

    Hello, Fox:

Remember to keep your focus sharp: on how the blade lies on the strop during the stroke, what it sounds like, and how it flips for the return trip. The flipping part can be tricky.

Think of a long distance swimmer in a pool, who has to follow a specific pattern to turn at the end of the lap. If you have not seen the following information in the Wiki, here is the link:

Remember to keep the pressure light and remember that this is not a race. Eventually you will get the right speed.

    Regards,

    Obie

Sounds like it was a good day. Congrats on your great shave. It truly is an excellent feeling when all the aspects come together. I believe that beginning today, you will notice that things may come together more often. Take note of what you did correctly today, it will help you tomorrow.

    Cheers,
    Maxi

    Fox,

Good for you! As my SRP friend Obie said, it is quite gratifying when everything comes together to deliver a great shave.

    Take care--and continued smooth shaving.
