    Default Homade Scuttle

Made myself a scuttle today and loved it. I had been soaking my brush in an old soup bowl for about 4-5 minutes to warm it up while I prep my face. I have a VDH Boar brush and was doing ok on lather (soap with a little glycerin). The brush doesn't make the greatest lather, but I found with a little patience I could get enough to shave 3 passes with.

I had been reading about scuttles and tried it out this morning. I found an old stainless 1 cup measure that just fit my soup bowl. I microwaved some water in the soup bowl until boiling and placed the cup measure in the top then proceeded to make lather. Boy howdy, the lather foamed up about 3 times faster and made about 3 times as much. And, it was much much hotter on my face. I found it stayed much hotter longer too. I had enough lather to shave 3 passes and then was able to lather my face a 4th time to wash off when finished.

The only problem was that the lather seemed to disapper in the bowl as I shaved. There was plenty on the brush and I could rebuild it very fast. I like this.

Don't get your scuttle water so hot. The two scuttles I have both suggested only microwaving your water for about a minute and a half. The extra heat is what is causing your lather to dissapate. I know with mine if I go more than about a minute 45 my lather will constantly need to be spritzed to maintain and then it still ends up drying on my face to nothing more than a tacky mess. I think your on the right path just cool it down a little and youll get better results.
