    Default Finally found my home

I've been a member here since 2009 but have only been active on here over the last week or so because I have only recently gotten to a point where straight razor shaving has become practical.

I have been a DE shaver for years and have belonged to a couple of other shaving forums one very big and the other a little smaller. On the bigger forum it seemed if you weren't using the most high end hardware and software to shave with they didn't have time for you and or your questions were not importandt. The smaller forum didn't have many members and in such didn't get much activity.

Then I happened upon Straight Razor Place and I found home the things that make me feel that THIS is the best place for me are:

New guy questions get some love

This forum covers DE shaving and not just as an after thought

There are members of this forum that are from my state so I can get some hands on knowledge which I think is important in straight razor shaving

My other hobbies are also discussed here which include but are not limited to pipe collecting and smoking, knives, and hats.

I find this forum best over all suits me and my evolving life style.

I am new to straights, coming from a DE there is a lot to learn, if your blade gets dull you can't throw it away and replace it with a new one. My questions may be dumb and or redundent so please bare with me. I am glad I am here, I am glad all of you are here.

This was in no way ment to bash other forum but rather to help descirbe the differences between other forums and what sets this one apart.

Welcome aboard. Like you, one thing that I really appreciate around here is the broad use of ALL different types of gear. You will see some INCREDIBLE set ups in the "Shave of the Day" forum but at the same time, many are just using the basics and and everything in between. Enjoy your time here.

I believe the answer to your question is you get the razor honed. You can read the wiki and pick up the stones to do this yourself (this can get a little pricey) The other option is to find one of our fine honemiesters who offer there services.

So welcome aboard we are glad to have you.

P.S. It's not all about the equipment, it's about how you use it.
