Ok so far i have 2 razors that were my grandfathers and i want to get them sharpened so i can try and use them. I have tried and not having any luck. I know of a barber supply store that sends them out for sharpening for $12 a piece. I may go that route first before i take the plunge and buy a hone. Got to find out if i can shave with them first. I have been using a DE and i love how close i can get with it. But would like to use the same ones my grandfather used if i can. thanks for your help. I saved the location you sent me so if i go that route later i will buy there. Thanks again!!

For some reason, the Straight Razor Designs website doesn't offer the Norton 4K/8K by itself -- only as part of a kit. And there's no "combination" Naniwa listed.

I suspect those gaps are errors in the website design.

    NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously though, I wouldn't recommend that. If the barber shop sends them out, you really have no idea who is going to do the honing, and there are a lot of places that send things out to guys who don't have a clue. It could be the same shop that uses nothing but power tools to sharpen the barber's scissors.

If these are family heirloom razors, you just don't want to take the risk. Send them out to Lynn, Glen, or one of the other folks who have proven themselves around here to do good honing.
