    Default Nicked Strop

    Gentlemen,

I have been shaving with a straight razor for about three months now. Over the course of the past three months mistakes were made. Namely my strop was nicked multiple times.

Is a nicked strop bad for a razor? I have not noticed any issues with the edge as of yet? If so, can a nicked strop be repaired. And how can it be repaired?
I have a Straight Razor Designs 3 inch premium leather strop.

    Kindest Personal Regards,
    Jochen

IME if they are small nicks on the edge a bit of sandpaper to flatten them out followed by neatsfoot (a little goes a long way) is effective. If it is a 'flap' from a deeper cut ..... I did that once ...... if you drink don't strop .... contact cement got it to where you can't see it if you don't know it is there. Whether it will have an affect on the edge would depend on the nicks and whether the edge makes contact as you strop. Maybe, maybe not. Just IMHO.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I believe SRD sells replacement leather for all of their strops. I have replaced the leather on a strop from them in the past, as I nicked my first one up real good.

If the nicks are at the top or the bottom, you should be able to avoid them and still strop well. If they're in a tough spot towards the middle of the strop's length, I'd consider replacing the leather.
