Good instructional videos for beginners
Hey Guys,
So I have a couple straight shaves under my belt and some are better than others. I am still having trouble with my neck because my hair grows sideways and I can't figure out the best way to do the ATG pass. Can you guys point me to some good instructional videos that include how to do an ATG pass on the neck?
Thanks!
Justin

I would recommend checking out youtube. Just put in "straight razor shave" and all sorts of one will pop up. It takes some time, but watch a bunch and you will see many different approaches and techniques. Lot's of videos are by members of SRP. See what looks like it may work for you, and give it a try! Jockeys's (Jockeys41) videos are particularly good.

I would agree with anyone who says check youtube. I started out my first shave using instruction from youtube myself. You can check out the videos I learned from if you'd lilke. Just type in the user name: Geofatboy
He has about 30 or so videos that are absolutly great for instruction...
Goodluck

Thanked: 1195There was actually a thread on this just last week....
Shaving vids can be good, but the problem with them is that there is no one-beard-fits-all approach to shaving. In other words the guy shaving in the video is using techniques that work for HIM, and will not necessarily work for you. They can at least provide you with some ideas on how to develop your own technique.
As well, you don't need to shave ATG to get a great shave on the sides of your neck. ATG can really be overrated, it encourages razor bumps and other forms of irritation. What you can do instead is do two XTG passes, one in each direction. Use a scything stroke and experiment with stretching the skin in various directions. This should provide a shave very much as close as an ATG pass will give.

Yeah i figured youtube would be my best bet - I was just hoping to get some usernames for videos that other people might have found helpful. So thank you to all who suggested I'll definitely check those out.
Ryan82 - that's really good to know. I am definitely going to try double XTG strokes.
You guys are awesome - thanks a lot

Thanked: 1263Another vote here for jockeys vids...they helped me out alot when I was getting started It basically boils down to what Ryan said..experimentation..you have to find what works for your face and beard. So just try out different techniques, angles, stretching etc. until you find what works for you.
