Fun fact for today...
I heard this today and thought I'd share. Probably old news to some (I think I'd heard it before too), but thought it'd be fun to share.
It was a straight razor that paved the way for Alphonse Capone's famous nickname "Scarface" compliments of an angry brother who was prompted to defend his sister's honor after insults from a young Al.
Hopefully we don't suffer the same fate at the edge of our blades!

Interesting. I always wondered how he got the scar. I hope the brother didn't end up in a pair of cement overshoes.

Additional searching at Answers.com - Why is Al Capone nicknamed Scarface
and Al Capone
confirms it was over a woman. It does mention the hoodlum's name as Frank Galluccio, but does not say the woman is his sister... an interesting twist.

Thanks for the interesting fact. Now if they could show that part in that series Boardwalk empre that would be cool.

My family is from Chicago-land and my parents live just south of Capone's lake front Wisconsin home (a convenient getaway in a day where cops couldn't cross state lines). I've heard lots of stories about Capone, etc. There's debate over the relationship of the woman and Galluccio (couldn't remember his name before). Whether she was his sister, his girlfriend, or one of his "girls"... I don't know if anyone knows for sure.

How interesting. I just watched a Columbo episode last night, too. He had a knack for solving these kinds of things

Fair Cut
Al Capone hiring his brother for security was very smart. His brother had already proven he would make sure Al got his cut....
Sorry about that...
