    Default shavette

i have been using a shavette by dovofor about 6 months. ive bought 4 regular s.r.s from an antiques shop. im working on getting the correct stones for honing. and a strop. i have 2 other inexpensive s.r.s i bought just to use to learn how to hone and strop properly. so in the meantime i use the shavette. i really like it. for a blade it uses regular de blades that you snap in half longways. around here ive only been able to find gillette at wal-mart and no name brands at the dollar store. i went to a beauty supply store and got some personna blades. out of the 3 the gillette is the best and the personna are the worst.i know i can get other brands on line. i posted this so mabey some others that have some experence with the shavette could give me some brand names that work well for them. im definitly staying with a s.r. but untill i get a regular s.r. that i can do the upkeep properly ill use the shavette. i just want some ideas on some disposable blades that dont seem to have a serrated edge!,willy

    Try derby blades.

I bought a 100 pack for $5 on amazon. they're not as keen as other brands, but shave smoother on the first shave. they do rust though... but they're cheap and sharp.

I started the same way you are. My favorite blades so far have been the Shark Chrome blades. I didn't like the Shark Stainless quite as much. I've tried the Gillettes and like them as well. I've enjoyed shaving with the Feather blades also, but they are very sharp and require a careful touch.

Default Before you hone your own

I would recommend before you start shaving with a straight you get the one you have honed by a professional so you know it is shave ready and what that feels and shaves like. Then you might consider getting an inexpensive razor to work on your honing technique; that way you can work on it and compare it to the sharpened one.

I love my shavette!!!... I use the Dovo brand blades for the black holder they are really nice blades!!... Don't get me wrong I love my SR to but the shavette is good when I'm in a hurry.. I would even be willing to send you a sample blade if you would like to try them.

I used Fromm blades for many years with no issue. They are cheap and you get many shaves out of them, but they do rust. Persona are the worst.

Derby blades are great! 100 single edge blades for under $10, how could you go wrong with that.

The absolute sharpest blades I found and other have found also are the "Feather" Japanese blades, wicked sharp right from the get go, I like "Wilkenson" also, very consistant and easy to use[smooth], some like the "Merkur" German brand, but as good as they sometimes are, their not consistant blade to blade, not great quality control or some such thing. I always take out the blade when I clean the Dovo after all my shaves and Oil the blade before puting it away, which is what I do with all my shaving gear. Thants why I also like the "Persona''s made in Isreal, won't rust on me that way!!

Hope this helps have a great day!!

The only thing about Feather blades is that some might think they're too sharp. The sample packs at Royal Shave give a good variety of blades to try out.

    I know right?

If you changed the blade every day, you still have over 3 months of shaving for $5. try doing that with a Mach 3.
