    Default lifting the edge

I apologize if the answer to my question is very obvious, but I figured I would ask. I know that while stropping accidentally lifting the spine of the razor is very bad for the edge. However, are there any negative affects to accidentally lifting the edge of the razor while stropping. I know the blade should be kept flat, but I'm just learning to strop and I've noticed that while focusing on keeping the spine flat on the strop, I sometimes mistakenly lift the edge. Thanks in advance!

Lifting the edge won't cause damage to the razor or the strop.

Lifting the edge won't do any damage, but you're not actually stropping during that pass. Keep the whole razor flat on the strop with minimal pressure for best results.

    And welcome aboard!

Thanks guys. I thought it didn't do any damage, but wanted to make sure. So every time I notice the edge lift, I should add another pass to make up for the 'missed' pass.

You're on the right track now. If your routine is quiet enough pay attention to how each pass sounds. It'll vary from razor to razor and strop to strop, but each pass ought to sound the same...at least that's what I do. It's easier for me to "hear" when something goes wrong than to see or feel it while it's happening.

    Don't believe these guys.

If that edge pops up even for a microsecond it causes a chain reaction on the sub atomic level in the edge metal and that razor is ruined forever. Why it will crumble the first time you use it. In that case send it to me. I'll dispose of it in my blast furnace out back.

I was wondering why the edge was starting to look like the Rocky mountains... Do you charge for your disposal service????
