Default moustache wax for unruly whiskers ?

I've been growing a gotee (spelling?) lately but have a few (well, more than a few) whacky whiskers that want to shoot off into strange directions as they grow out. I'm wondering if a touch of moustache wax would be the solution? Any suggestions are most welcome. One brand over another, or maybe some other method to tame them that i'm not aware of. thanks pardeners.

I use Clubman. Stay away from CVS knock off. It doesn't have enough body. I'm glad you asked this question and will watch for other answers. I haven't found anything better than Clubman but wouldn't mind trying something else.

Back when I had a handlebar I tried the Clubman wax and was very let down by it. After a few hours, the wax started to flake off and it looked like I had dried out food in the mustache. No it wasn't food!

For just a few flyaway whiskers, try a pomade. Murray's makes a decent THICK wax type pomade. Sally's Beauty Supply should sell it. It's in an orange tin with a gentleman with an afro on the lid! The smell is almost like a sweet tobacco. I believe the price was about $5 and that is enough to last you a lifetime.

for my handlebar - which I'm growing again after letting the lip breathe free for a couple of months - I use clubman as well. I know there are many others out there, but to just keep a couple of strays on track, you can't beat the price. Like it was previously mentioned, if you put it on too thick, it will get crusty and flake off, and you'll look like you were rooting around in Styrofoam shavings.

I have tried Colonel Conk's as well. It was ok. I liked the smell, but didn't have enough gusto to keep the whiskers in check. Also - it was petrolatum based. As is Murrays. Petrolatum = vaseline.

Just be weary that petrolatum based "waxes" can be very difficult to wash out. Many people recommend using dishwashing soap to get it out effectively. But it can definitely get the job done.

The best thing that I have found for controlling my mustache is Burt's Bees Beeswax Lip balm. It does an excellent job without being sticky or hard to wash out. It smells much better than most of the mustache waxes out there, which is a good thing considering that it is right under your nose. It gives just enough hold without being stiff, and does a good job conditioning/softening my whiskers. Use just a bit to keep the unruly hairs where you want them, or use a bit more to hold the twist and curl of your handlebars perfectly. I also think that it is one of the best protective/healing lip balms on the market.

Goatee. But, just to get it straight, is it a goatee or a VanDyke (named for the artist)? Goatee is on the chin only (many variations, but it does not include a moustache), VanDyke is a mustache (or moustache (pick your spelling, either is correct) and a chin beard, joined or not (again, many variations, but always includes a moustache).

I use Col. Conk when I want to wax it. Washes out easily with soap and water. I'm not a serious waxer, so I'm not up on all the stasch waxes, but Conk does what I want on occasion, just a bit of control over wavy whiskers. I'd take the advice from the others who have replied.

    B

Thanks. It's a VanDyke. Never heard that term before and like the sound of it more than "goatee".
