    It would help to know what kind of razor you are dealing with here.

    How can 1 side not be sharp? o.O We are talking about double bevel and not single bevel correct? Because it's not the side but the edge which is sharp right? Look at your bevels, are they both the same size? If 1 is larger than the other then that could change the angles a bit.

    Initial thought: Is he trying to sharpen the spine edge? No no no, certainly not!

    Your advice makes the most sense to me based off of the physics of the blade, and the remarks of the OP.

    Pics of the razor, grind, etc. would be helpful.

    Also, sounds like what I've heard some others experience with a wire edge...the side of the blade the wire is on seems sharp, but the other side doesn't...could be the result of over-honing.

    I was thinking about this last night, could it be that the OP is referring to the ends of the razor and not the sides? So, eg the toe is sharp but the heel is not.
