Default 1st shave required 2 showers

After reading everything i could here for a few months and having my great-grandfathers razor fixed up by Stefan (mainaman), I finally tried my first shave tonight. Since I began shaving I've always shaved prior to my shower (someone told me it would make my beard thicker), but I decided to shower first to soften my beard. The shave went much better than I expected, except for the way I was holding the razor, it seemed so small in my hand. Nevertheless, I got through it, but my nerves had me sweating so much I needed another shower.
Also, I have no idea how some shave with one hand. I tried to do left side with right hand and that lasted about half a stroke. I couldn't tell what the heck I was doing. Left hand worked much better. I noticed too I had to watch the angle, I kept getting too steep and just scraping the soap off, not the hair.
Sorry for rambling. Any and all advice is welcome and thanks for all the great info I've already read here.

A start is just a start, but it is a start. If you keep at it, things will improve. Keep reading the Wiki and keep shaving. Good luck! Surviving the first shave is crucial.

It takes a while.. Shave with your str8 as if your whiskers
    were coming in again.

Most get sides first and a bit of a stash...
Eventually the chin and neck will fuzzup and
    then bristle up.

So start shaving the easy bits at first and finish
with a tossable or DE as needed.
Over time holding the blade will be effortless as
    will stropping.

Take it easy and have fun.

Congrats on a successful shave, most people dont even discover the necessity of proper angle until they are frustrated enough to quit! You have done well young Jedi!

well done on your first shave mate, tbh i thought i was the only one who had to have two showers as like you after my shower i shaved for the first time and by the end needed another shower due to sweating lol

you will be surprised how much easier the next shaves become just dont do what i did and get over confident, otherwise like me you may end up with a nice inch long cut on one cheek to remind you to slow down lol

Yeah, like the two on my cheek and the one beneath my right nostril...lol (at least now I'm laughing). Ouch. I keep telling myself it will get better.

Sounds like you did great! Keep moving forward.
