Thanked: 1Aftershaves vs. Colognes
What is the consensus to applying aftershave or cologne to your face after you shave? Is it acceptable to apply cologne in the same manner, after a shave?
(For more history on my burgeoning question please view the Bay Rum post in Aftershaves and Colognes)
Thanks for the advice!!

Well, if you put aftershave or cologne on your face right after you shave it'll burn like crazy for a few seconds. Other than that, it's really up to you. After I shave, I use a skin toner like Thayer's Rose Petal/Witchazel to help heal the skin and then I wait about 10 minutes before I apply cologne to my neck and upper chest area.

I do the same thing as Ed, I either use a soothing aftershave made by the arizona goat milk soap co., or I use coral skin food for soothing my skin, neither of them burn. Then I apply cologne, or sometimes an oil of some sort.

It's alcohol based after shave for me.
I love the burn.

Thanked: 1i was taught that men put aftershave on their face and cologne wherever they want to be kissed.
in all honesty its probably best to use a moisturizing or nourishing aftershave gel or cream on the face after a shave and the smell good stuff someplace else.
in practice though i tend to like the feel of spash on aftershave afterwards, even the burn.

I don't mind the burn....but my face gets SOOO dry after I shave that anything with alcohol makes my face feel tight and even more dry....I dont know if its just me or what.

My skin is pretty sensitive so if I put an alcohol-based aftershave on my face, it gets really red and irritated for a couple of hours afterwards and it really drys my skin out. Using a non-alcohol toner really helps to avoid that.

Like a lot of these guys I use two products. I use the arizona goats milk aftershave lotion immediately (or proraso occasionally but I'm hooked on the goats milk stuff). After about 10 minutes I put a splash of the royall lyme on (which is marketed as an "all purpose lotion" but it's basically just an alcohol based aftershave). I too like "the burn" and still get a bit of it even after using the TAZGMSC or proraso first.

Thanked: 0That goats milk is good stuff. Proraso is not bad either but that fragrance wears on me. If they make an unscented or different one I would buy it first. It does do a good job on my skin.
