Thanks
I just wanted to say thanks to everybody that posts here. I spend a lot of time lurking here and learning how to master the straight. I am a long way away from putting down my DEs ans SEs and using a straight every day but I sure do like the shaves that I get from it!

No reason you have to give up your DE. I rotate my DE and my SR's. If I have a little extra time, I'll use my SR, otherwise my DE. They both give far better shaves than any cartridge razor

Thanked: 3I just wanted to say thanks to everybody that posts here. I spend a lot of time lurking here and learning how to master the straight. I am a long way away from putting down my DEs ans SEs and using a straight every day but I sure do like the shaves that I get from it!
I am a long way from even being able to get a decent shave from my straights, but having the wealth of knowledge provided by this community is a great resource!
I sometimes wonder where I would be if I were trying to do this on my own...the answer is, nowhere. I simply couldn't do it. Some great people here who are incredibly generous with their time and knowledge--thanks.

Thanked: 1I agree. The knowledge offered here is incredible. I've only been shaving with straights for a little over a week, but tonight I was able to get a satisfactory shave without having to finish up with a DE. That's better than I thought I'd be doing this quickly.
There's just something about making a successful ATG stroke that is akin to a religious experience. When I ditched cartridges years ago and started using DEs, brushes and soaps, shaving became incredibly fun. Now straight razors have taken it to another level. I really can't wait to shave each day.
I tried a straight a few years ago and didn't have the patience for it. I sold it after two weeks. Now I'm not aiming for the world's closest shave and am learning to take my time and be content with a shave that's just a bit better than the last one.
I wouldn't have even given straights another try had it not been for the helpful nature of the members of this forum. Thanks!

Thanked: 190I went from a M3 to a SR and used the M3 to clean up as I was learning. In about the third week, I used the M3 only for a final pass on hard to get ATG movements until I gained the proper technique.
Now, a complete SR shave is under 15 minutes and well worth the time.
Have fun with Straight Shaving and SRP,
Pabster

I've been here for 9 months and the members are just the best. As a resource for information, its amazing but as a community its unbelievable.
thank you SRP, I'd still be using a Mach3 right now if I hadn't been directed here from a friend - and also probably a little insane...
