Thanked: 1Okay to shave with a tarnished razor
I have several old razors that I want to work on restoring. I'm getting my first hone soon and want to put an edge on them. I'm really excited about this, so I'm going to hone them before I try restoring them. So is it okay to shave with a razor that's pretty tarnished? Obviously there won't be any tarnish on the edge, but not sure if that brings about any risks. I will make sure there isn't any rust on the blade though.
Thanks.
Tony

I've shaved with many tarnished razors in the past and still do. So far so good.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Some people prefer their razors with some patina on them. There is a razor club thread here that you might find interesting.

I've yet to shave with an untarnished razor and have had no problems. I have a bright bathroom, and it's kind of nice not to get blinded by the blade.

Thanked: 1936Tarnished, patina, scared up...heck they are old, but have life in them still. Hone them up and shave on...I have several that may not win beauty contests...but they are great shavers!
As long as the edge isn't pitted up so that you are trying to shave with a swiss cheese edge that is...That and cracks are really the only no-no. With a little work, sometimes you can even get around those issues.Southeastern Oklahoma/Northeastern Texas helper. Please don't hesitate to contact me.
Thank you and God Bless, Scott

Heck yeah! Patina is just proof of age!
