Any Oil to Fight Rust?

1a. Razors only need to be protected with oil for storage, or do razors need to be protected with oil after every shave?

1b. Can a razor really suffer rust damage less than one hour after its use if it is not protected with oil?

2. What oil works best? Do I really need to buy something specific or will household oil work (olive oil/nut oil)?

I just use mineral oil on mine, cheap and works well.

If your razor is in a very humid environment, yes it can rust in an hour.

I'm not custom to razors yet, but I forged a kitchen knife from butter-iron and carbon steel. Carbon steel is also the best steel type for razors since it is very easy to get a good, lasting edge, that you can get scarry sharp. In comparison, stainless steel is cr*p compared. But these materials are likely to catch a spot of rust, but my master ( jean-josé tritz, Messer - Jean Jos Tritz - Hamburg ) said that the best oil to protect this kind of knife, is almond oil. Simple salad oil I asked him about olive oil or raps oil, but he said that they do not work as well.

If I were you, I'd go find me a bottle of almond oil. And maybe also a bottle of Amaretto

There are a number of things to use. You don't want to use something that has chemicals in it like 3 in 1 oil.You also don't want to use an oil that can go rancid for longer term storage and you don't want something that deteriorates by itself or is too light. Personally, I like Sterol. Some like sentry solutions but there's lots of stuff you can use.

I just rinse my razor in hot water and dry it off with a towel. Have no had any problem with rust, even though it is a carbon steel razor.

I let if air dry and put it away in a drawer away from the bathroom.

I have also heard that Vaseline is ok to use but I'm not sure if that is true though. It would be a cheap and effective way since just about everyone has some in their bathroom.
