I'm not custom to razors yet, but I forged a kitchen knife from butter-iron and carbon steel. Carbon steel is also the best steel type for razors since it is very easy to get a good, lasting edge, that you can get scarry sharp. In comparison, stainless steel is cr*p compared. But these materials are likely to catch a spot of rust, but my master ( jean-josé tritz, Messer - Jean Jos Tritz - Hamburg ) said that the best oil to protect this kind of knife, is almond oil. Simple salad oil
I asked him about olive oil or raps oil, but he said that they do not work as well.
If I were you, I'd go find me a bottle of almond oil. And maybe also a bottle of Amaretto
Best regards
Kristian

There are a number of things to use. You don't want to use something that has chemicals in it like 3 in 1 oil.You also don't want to use an oil that can go rancid for longer term storage and you don't want something that deteriorates by itself or is too light. Personally, I like Sterol. Some like sentry solutions but there's lots of stuff you can use.
