I wanted to thank all of you for the great advise. I have been looking into buying a straight for over a year. I have read this entire at least twice so I feel prepared. I am going to buy a dovo best quality we set from srd so I know it's quality and shave ready also going to buy an alum block. Is there anything else I should purchase?

Good man. I have always had sensitive skin with coarse whiskers. I'm only using a shavette for the moment(saving up for a razor and strop) and my skin no longer feels irritated after a shave. Can't wait till I get a proper straight.

Get yourself a nice quality soap and/or cream, I'd say that's as almost important as getting a shave-ready razor. A good quality brush will go a long way as well. Good luck!

I suffered from the same irritation for all of my whisker growing life. The BIGGEST thing I think I have ever done to help (aside from good beard prep prior to shaving, technique, ect.) is applying some sort of Oil before a shave. I strated with baby oil but it made me break out, and have since moved to Extra Virgin Olive Oil, and the results are fantastic. a few drops on the hand a rub into the beard after your shower, but prior to your first lather will do you wonders, at least it has for me.
My irritation has gone down about 50% just from that alone... add in good beard prep and using a straight (though I still finish up with my regular razor, because im a noob still) and I am now able to shave EVERY morning

    Good luck, YMMV.

I'm generaly irritated but it's not from shaving though. I do think that you'll need a decent stop to keep that fine edge of your razor.
